Five steps to increase female participation in technology
HR Director at Cirion Technologies shares strategies for inclusion and development of women in the sector
São Paulo, March 05, 2025 – In the last 10 years, the number of jobs in the technology area has increased by 95% in Brazil, according to a study released by the Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of São Paulo (FecomercioSP). Despite the high demand, female participation is still low: less than 20% of positions in the technology area in Brazil are held by women. When we consider leadership positions, adding up all of Latin America, they occupy less than 30% of them, according to the Women in Technology survey.
This scenario reflects challenges such as technical training, lack of representation, and invisible barriers that perpetuate gender inequality in the sector. To help transform this reality, companies such as Cirion Technologies, a leading provider of digital infrastructure and technology, have developed strategies to retain and qualify talent so that more women take on positions that are mostly held by men.
As part of this commitment, Cirion’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Cibele Giarrante, shares five essential tips to promote the inclusion and development of women in technology:
Create mentoring and training programs: Mentoring programs help reduce barriers and expand opportunities for women who want to enter the area to develop more quickly.
Promote a more flexible work environment: Policies such as flexible working hours and childcare assistance are key to supporting women, especially mothers, to advance in their careers.
Ensure a safe and inclusive environment: Cirion has developed a welcoming protocol for employees who are victims of domestic violence, which will be launched in March, due to International Women’s Day, celebrated on the 8th. Safe environments and institutional support make all the difference, so the company has created a guidance list for managers and will offer financial, emotional, psychological and legal support to employees.
Give visibility to women in technology: initiatives such as networking groups, events, and the recognition of female leaders are essential to encourage more women to enter the area. One of these events will take place on March 11, in São Paulo, where the company will hold an afternoon of autographs with the operations manager for Latin America, Tatiana Soares. She is co-author of the book Women in Telecom, a work that brings together stories of women who have made a difference in the technology market.
Invest in technical training and professional development: Supporting female skills in technology is an essential step to increase women’s participation in the sector. Cirion encourages this growth through training programs and specialized training, such as courses in public speaking, personal branding, social networks and leadership. In addition, the company offers a scholarship program that provides technical training for female employees.
“There are still challenges to be overcome, but we are moving forward. The presence of women in technology is not just a matter of representation, but a necessity for the development of innovative and inclusive solutions for society”, highlights Cibele Giarrante.
Finally, Cibele gives a bonus tip for those who intend to grow in the area: “Empowerment and attitude are fundamental to stand out in any sector. Therefore, prepare yourself with technical training and do not be afraid to face new challenges. We can overcome all obstacles”, she emphasizes.

Strategic land acquisition located immediately adjacent to Cirion’s existing RIO1 facility in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to support a new 60 MW state-of-the-art, carrier-neutral, energy efficient data center
New data center will provide critical colocation capacity to service growing regional demand needs
MIAMI, FL, August, 1, 2024 – Cirion Technologies (the “Company”), a pan-Latin American leading digital infrastructure and technology provider, today announced that the Company has acquired a 15,000 square meter parcel of land, located immediately adjacent to its existing interconnection-dense data center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (“RIO1”), to support the expansion of its data center footprint in the region. Cirion is backed by Stonepeak, a leading alternative investment firm specializing in infrastructure and real assets with more than $71.2 billion in assets under management and an extensive portfolio of communications and digital infrastructure investments globally.
The new parcel of land, which is located in the São Cristovão neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, will support a new up to 60 megawatt carrier-neutral data center facility (“RIO2”). RIO2 will have access to a business-friendly environment and renewable energy sources, an already established ecosystem with more than fifty network and cloud providers, diverse metro and long-haul connectivity to major cities and tech hubs in the region and be in close proximity to international subsea cable networks to deliver minimal latency between Latin America and other regions. RIO2 is expected to be ready for service in 2026.
Once constructed, RIO2 will mark Cirion’s fourth data center asset in Brazil, and will be directly connected through primary, redundant dark fiber routes to the rest of Cirion’s Brazilian platform. The Brazilian platform currently comprises three data center campuses in São Paulo (“SAO1”), Rio de Janeiro (“RIO1”), and Curitiba (“CUR1”), which are strategically located in secure, easily accessible regions, and close to primary business districts, enabling strong logistical and operational agility. RIO2 will also be integrated into Cirion’s broader carrier-neutral platform comprising 18 data centers across Latin America. Through its platform, Cirion provides colocation, cross connectivity, and disaster recovery capabilities to support the demand needs of various hyperscalers, carriers, content providers, and enterprises, and customers can connect directly to more than 100 network service providers and to key public cloud providers operating in the region via peer-to-peer connectivity.
“This land acquisition supports the continued expansion of our data center campus in Rio de Janeiro, highlighting another important milestone in our expansion journey to grow our platform of low-latency, interconnected data centers”, said Facundo Castro, CEO for Cirion Technologies.
Nelson Fonseca, President of Cirion’s Data Center business unit, stated, “RIO2 will be a state-of-the-art, carrier-neutral, energy-efficient data center with direct fiber connectivity to Cirion’s existing ecosystem from day 1, providing interconnect-oriented colocation capacity to the region’s rapidly growing data center market”.
The acquisition of this land and development of RIO2 complements Cirion’s current data center developments in Santiago, Chile (“SAN2”) and Lima, Peru (“LIM2”), as well as the recently completed expansion of its data center campus in SAO1. These projects ensure continued scalability for Cirion’s customers as digital transformation and cloud adoption continues to proliferate rapidly in Latin America.

In 2020, YDUQS sought to upgrade its IT infrastructure to tackle the growing challenges of the educational market. The institution needed a flexible, scalable and secure solution, which also offered high performance and availability for their critical systems.
Further to a rigorous selection process, Cirion was chosen as a technological partner, responsible for migrating all YDUQS production databases to Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer, deploying Universal Credits model, thus ensuring data resiliency by replicating the environment to another Data Center. The company’s new environment hosts business applications and offers greater availability of the service provided to their students, improving response time to their requests.
This solution provides the company with greater stability, flexibility and security, in addition to optimizing costs and allowing the institution to focus on its strategic objectives.
Benefits of the Solution
Migrating to Exadata provided YDUQS with several benefits, including:
Increased stability and performance: Optimized environment for Oracle Database, resulting in a significant increase in system performance and availability.
Flexibility and scalability: The solution is highly flexible and scalable, thus enabling a fast and efficient response to your needs.
