Buenos Aires, March 25, 2026 – On International Data Center Day, the global industry is undergoing a structural shift driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and the accelerated digitalization of multiple sectors. This process is significantly increasing the demand for digital infrastructure. Market projections point to strong growth in data centers toward the end of the decade. Global data center demand is estimated to grow between 19% and 22% annually through 2030.

In this context, South America is emerging as an increasingly relevant region on the global infrastructure map. Sustained growth in digital consumption, expanding connectivity, and an energy matrix with a high share of renewable sources are driving the sector’s development.

Market evolution is evident across the region. Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela are examples of countries where new expansion opportunities are emerging every day. Governments are paying close attention to this window of opportunity and are moving to promote support and incentive initiatives for the market. This scenario reflects a structural shift: the region is transitioning from a model of isolated markets to a distributed network of digital infrastructure. Artificial intelligence is emerging as the main driver of transformation in the sector.

“On International Data Center Day, we celebrate the essential role these infrastructures play in the development of Latin America. Our platform operates in seven countries across the region, in strategic markets such as Bogotá, Lima, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Quito, Curitiba, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro. In each of these locations, our data centers host ecosystems that drive business and economic activity through interconnection. We support hyperscalers and leading international service providers as they enter the region, while connecting local companies to cutting-edge technologies to accelerate the development of their digital platforms,” said Gabriel del Campo, Chief Revenue Officer – Data Center at Cirion Latam.

New applications require not only greater capacity, but also higher power density, low latency, and proximity to end users. AI workloads are estimated to increase data center power density by three to four times, putting additional pressure on companies to adopt sustainable solutions. Companies entering the region are designing geographically distributed architectures across multiple sites, seeking more resilient models that create opportunities across different countries. At the same time, cloud expansion remains a key driver, shaping an environment where infrastructure must be increasingly interconnected, resilient, and scalable.

However, the sector’s growth faces significant challenges. Access to electricity, along with factors such as transmission, permitting, and regulatory predictability, is becoming a critical element for future development. In this context, the availability of local partners with deep market knowledge becomes a key differentiator for international companies looking to enter or expand in the region.

The role of data centers is also evolving. They are no longer fragmented infrastructures but are becoming interconnection platforms where cloud providers, enterprises, and connectivity platforms converge. The ability to integrate these ecosystems becomes a competitive advantage, ensuring continuity and innovation for the companies operating within them.

Operators with integrated regional presence are seeking to capture market growth. Cirion Technologies has been executing a data center expansion strategy across the region, based on a model that combines scalable facilities with dense, interconnected digital ecosystems. In recent years, the company has expanded capacity with new 20 MW facilities in Santiago (SAN2) and Lima (LIM2), along with expansions in Quito (QUI2), Buenos Aires (BUE1), São Paulo (SAO1 and SAO2), and Rio de Janeiro (RIO1). It is also developing a new 80 MW site in Rio de Janeiro (RIO2), being built in phases according to demand, as well as Bogotá (BOG2). These investments reflect a commitment to maintaining a constantly evolving environment capable of supporting future growth in space and power, while hosting an ecosystem that ensures technological advancement through access to innovative solutions from multiple digital service providers.

On this International Data Center Day, the key takeaway is clear: digital infrastructure is no longer just a support layer—it has become a strategic asset. In South America, this shift represents a unique opportunity. The challenge is set — and the evolution will not stop.
