Nelson Fonseca joins Cirion to augment its executive team

MIAMI, March 11, 2024 Cirion Technologies, a leading provider of digital infrastructure in Latin America, announced the appointment of Nelson Fonseca as President of its Data Center business, effective immediately. Nelson’s appointment reflects the continued growth in demand in the region and Cirion’s commitment to continue to provide its customers with a comprehensive set of colocation and interconnection solutions for their digital needs.

Nelson brings more than 25 years of experience in the digital infrastructure space to Cirion, most recently as President and Chief Executive Officer of Cyxtera, a global provider of data center and interconnection services. Nelson was previously a partner at Medina Capital and served as President of Terremark until its $2 billion sale to Verizon in 2012.

Cirion is backed by Stonepeak, a leading alternative investment firm specializing in infrastructure and real assets that manages approximately US$61.1 billion in assets and a broad portfolio of global investments in communications and digital infrastructure. Stonepeak’s global data center portfolio includes Cirion in Latin America, Cologix in North America, Digital Edge in Asia and a joint venture with American Tower’s CoreSite in the United States.

“We are excited to welcome Nelson to Cirion, as the Company continues to rapidly scale its data center business across Latin America. We look forward to partnering with him at Cirion, a key part of Stonepeak’s global data center franchise,” said Stonepeak Senior Managing Director, Andrew Thomas.

I am honored to join the Cirion team at this exciting time to bring digital infrastructure solutions to our hyperscale, service provider and enterprise customers.” said Fonseca.

Cirion recently announced the construction of two purpose-built data centers in Santiago, Chile (SAN2)  and Lurín, Peru (LIM2), to serve the rapidly growing cloud demand in the region. Both facilities will initially target 20MW of capacity with further expansion potential. Cirion also finished the previously announced expansion of its data center complex in São Paulo, Brazil (SAO1), increasing total capacity by more than 50%, and has begun the expansions of its data centers in Rio (RIO1) and Buenos Aires (BUE1). These projects ensure continued scalability for Cirion’s customers as cloud adoption and digital demand continues to proliferate rapidly across Latin America.
